JUST IN: Celine Dion's husband René Angélil has died at age 73 after a battle with cancer. Ironically early this week David Bowie, the innovative and iconic singer whose illustrious career lasted five decades, also died after a battle with cancer, he was 69. As we watch many famous people as well as our friends and family members slowly dropping off one by one all around us, it's a clear reminder of the power that inevitable time has over us. No matter how physically beautiful, rich or famous we may become during this lifetime, in the end we all face the same destiny- we all face death. In dying we are forced to leave this body and everything we have spent our whole lives working so hard to achieve behind. No matter how big and important we are, absolutely no one can escape it , death comes to us all- no one gets out of here alive!
If you knew you were going to take a long journey tomorrow- wouldn’t you plan for it today?
The enlighten soul clearly recognizes the temporary nature of this body and the names and forms of this world connected with it. Seeing this life for what it is just one chapter in a big book- which will be over in the blink of an eye. Therefore the wise don't waste their time and energy with building temporary material achievements and big bank accounts , but instead invest their life into building spiritual treasures of the heart - preparing for that onward journey that awaits us all.
As the Great Saint Lord Jesus Christ taught: “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Matthew 6:19-21 Treasures in Heaven 19
Knowing who you are
Actually we can never really "die"- at the time of death the material body dies but you the spirit soul continue to exist. When we know who we really are, that the material body is not us, and that we are the eternal spirit soul temporarily residing within this body- we are immediately set free from the fear of death. In the ancient Yoga texts of the Srimad Bhagavad Gita which was spoken by the Supreme Personality Of Godhead Sri Krishna over 5000 years ago to Arjuna, we can learn who we are, and become enlightened to the absolute truth of eternal nature of the soul.
Sri Krishna says:
Bg 2.17 — That which pervades the entire body you should know to be indestructible. No one is able to destroy that imperishable soul.
Bg 2.22 — As a person puts on new garments, giving up old ones, the soul similarly accepts new material bodies, giving up the old and useless ones.
Bg 2.23 — The soul can never be cut to pieces by any weapon, nor burned by fire, nor moistened by water, nor withered by the wind.
Bg 2.24 — This individual soul is unbreakable and insoluble, and can be neither burned nor dried. He is everlasting, present everywhere, unchangeable, immovable and eternally the same.
Bg 2.25 — It is said that the soul is invisible, inconceivable and immutable. Knowing this, you should not grieve for the body.
Seeing life as a spiritual preparation for death
When you know who you are, and you clearly understand your eternal nature- as a spirit soul, an individual spark of God- life then takes on a whole new meaning. Living a meaning full life is no longer about being rich, popular, or being highly educated or being externally beautiful or perfect- it is about being real, being humble, being kind, and living and acting on my true identity as a child of Krishna (God)
We are born alone and must die alone.
When we know this truth and fully understand that our only eternal relationship is with Krishna The Supreme Soul we immediately choose to live this life differently than the common man, by living my life in such a way that every moment is wisely spent in spiritual pursuit of coming to know and love Krishna (God) once again.
I can love you but God can love you deeper
The art of truly loving others: We can really love and care for others when we see them not as our own property, but as they are; children of Krishna (God). When we recognize that the only relationship that we and our loved ones can truly depend upon, is that eternal relationship with the Supreme Person- that Dear Friend residing within our Heart or hearts, who is always there for us to turn to in times of need -closer than their own breath. By actively engaging in developing our individual personal loving relationship with the Supreme (God) at the end of this life at the time of death we can be liberated from this world of material suffering and go home back to Godhead.
I can love you but God can love you deeper
I can be a friend, but God can be your best friend.
I can hug you, but God can envelope you.
You can cry to me, but God can dry your tears.
I can hold your hand, but God can carry you.
Try as I may I won't always be there-but God will never leave you.
Time is our most valuable possession, we can never get a year, month, week, hour, or minute back.
