"The earth is regarded as one of our mothers. From it is born our body and to it our body returns after death."
The relationship between a Mother and a child is one of dependency, trust, nurturing and respecting the guidance the Mother provides. Our planet is endangered today by the lack of our respect towards her, and the beings which live here.
This threat is very real: to see it, one just has to observe the pollution of rivers, the transformation of all forest into agricultural and pastor land, and the loss of the memory of their immense value for life.
“I bring to our Mother, the Earth, the gift of a new beginning"
We really don’t need to “save” Mother Earth, we need to care enough about her as she does us, that we choose to live in harmony in this relationship. If that is done, not only will the Earth heal, mankind will also heal.
Meat is the most resource-intensive food on the table and eating less of it can be the single most "green" move a person can make. Producing meat requires huge amounts of water, grain, land, and other inputs including hormones and antibiotics, and leads to pollution of soil, air, and water.
A pound of beef requires around 12,000 gallons of water to produce, compared to 60 gallons for a pound of potatoes. Going vegetarian or vegan is a profoundly meaningful environmental choice, so if you're a meat eater start with meatless Monday, cut out meat for just one day a week.
“I bring to our Mother, the Earth, the birth of a new consciousness.”
Scientific studies have proven the earth cannot continue to support a meat-based diet for billions of people. The most environmentally responsible thing we can do is change what is on our plate, as the great Mahatma Gandhi said be the change you want to see in the world. So make a difference today and choose a vegan diet.
